September 22, 2004 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Junior midfielder Jaron Putmon (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) scored the game-winning goal in the 105th minute of play to lift the host Washington College men's soccer team over visiting Goucher, 2-1, in double overtime this afternoon at Shriver Field. The Shoremen (3-2-1) have now defeated the Gophers (4-4) in each of the last five meetings between the two teams. Washington took a 1-0 lead at 51:41 when senior midfielder Tom Baker (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) scored on a break off an assist from sophomore midfielder Jordan Lange (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt). Goucher tied the score at the 62:07 mark as Gary Decker knocked in a goal off a cross from Eddie Emokpae. Putmon dribbled around a defender to score his goal at 104:17. Washington senior goalkeeper Ryan Miller (Bel Air, MD/Fallston) made five saves in the win, while Tom Feuerstein made four for Goucher. Today's game marked the fourth double-overtime contest for the Shoremen in six games this season. Dating back to last season, 17 of the Shoremen's last 18 games have been decided by one goal or ended in a tie.
