WAC Rally Comes Up Short at Dickinson
Red Devils Prevail Over Shoremen, 3-2

CARLISLE, PA -- Host Dickinson College built a 3-0 lead and withstood a second-half rally by visiting Washington College to come away with a 3-2 Centennial Conference men's soccer victory this afternoon in Carlisle, PA. The Red Devils (6-6-1 overall, 2-3 Centennial) got one goal and two assists from Matt Kurteson, while junior defender Matthew Watson (Pembroke, Bermuda/Westminster School, CT) scored his first collegiate goal for the Shoremen (3-6-1, 0-4).

The Red Devils got on the board first when Kurteson found Scott Moses for a goal at 21:30. Kurteson then headed in a corner kick from Bobby Malek at 30:00 to put Dickinson up 2-0. Dickinson pushed the lead to 3-0 early in the second half when Kurteson assisted on a goal by Greg Wiatrowski at 48:17.

Watson scored his first collegiate goal on a direct kick and started the Washington rally at 56:40. Junior midfielder Jaron Putmon (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) scored off an assist from senior midfielder Tom Baker (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) at 63:05 to cut the lead to 3-2, but the Red Devils kept the Shoremen off the board for the final 26:55 to hang on for the win.

Dickinson goalkeeper Aaron Stemplewicz made four saves in the win, while Washington senior goalkeeper Ryan Miller (Bel Air, MD/Fallston) made nine.

The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with a 3:30 p.m. non-conference game at Delmarva rival Wesley College.
