6, 2003 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Junior midfielder/forward Tom Baker (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) scored one goal and assisted on the other three as the Washington College men's soccer team topped Rutgers-Newark, 4-0, this afternoon in the second game of the Washington College Soccer Classic. Baker launched a cross that senior midfielder/forward Geoff Foltyn (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall) headed in to open the scoring at the 8:56 mark. Baker then scored a goal at 24:41 off an assist from Foltyn and picked up his second assist at 36:18 when freshman forward Josh Todd (Crisfield, MD/Crisfield) knocked in a goal off a deflected shot by Baker. That goal was the first of Todd's collegiate career and gave the Shoremen a 3-0 halftime lead. The only goal of the second half came at 76:50 when Baker assisted on a goal by junior midfielder Justin Layfield (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall). Baker has either scored or assisted on all five of the Shoremen's goals this season. WC junior goalkeeper Ryan Miller (Bel Air, MD/Fallston) made six saves for his second shutout of the season. Dating back to last season, Miller has held seven consecutive opponents to under two goals. Carmine Cambareri made 11 saves for the Scarlet Raiders (0-2). Rutgers-Newark held a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks, but was outshot, 26-9. In today's first game of the Washington College Soccer Classic, Wesley (1-1-1) and Catholic (0-0-1) played to a 1-1 double overtime tie. Catholic's Keith Cappo scored on a direct kick at the 19:09 mark and Wesley's Dean Caton scored off an assist from Andrew Tescione at 59:02. CUA's Evan Phillips and Wesley's Casey Cook each made 11 saves in goal. Tomorrow at the Washington College Soccer Classic, Wesley plays Rutgers-Newark at 1:00 p.m., while the Shoremen take on Catholic at 3:30 p.m. Box Score
