10, 2003 TOWSON, MD -- The Washington College Shoremen posted their third straight shutout and their fourth in five games this season as they defeated host Goucher, 3-0, this afternoon in men's soccer action in Towson, MD. This is the first time that the Shoremen (3-1-1) have held three consecutive opponents off the scoreboard since 1996. Washington's first goal came at 39:30 when junior midfielder Matt Kibler (Hagerstown, MD/Boonsboro) beat two defenders to score his first collegiate goal. The score remained 1-0 until the 73:04 when a cross from junior midfielder Justin Layfield (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall) found junior midfielder/forward Tom Baker (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) cutting toward the goal. Baker knocked the ball in for his second goal of the season, raising his team-leading 2003 point total to eight. The Shoremen tacked on another goal at 85:41 when freshman midfielder Jordan Lange (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) headed in a corner kick off the foot of senior midfielder/forward Geoff Foltyn (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall). WC junior goalkeeper Ryan Miller (Bel Air, MD/Fallston), who has played all 470 minutes in goal for Washington this season, made seven saves in the win. Miller raised his season save percentage to .975 and lowered his goals-against average to 0.19. Dating back to last season, Miller and the Shore defense has now held nine consecutive opponents to under two goals. Tom Feuerstein made 10 saves for the Gophers, who slipped to 2-2 with the loss.
