WC Tie Clinches Classic Title
Shoremen, CUA Play to 0-0 Deadlock

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College men's soccer team played to a 0-0 tie with Catholic University to clinch the Washington College Soccer Classic Championship this afternoon at Kibler Field. WC junior goalkeeper Ryan Miller (Bel Air, MD/Fallston) made nine saves in the game to record his third shutout in four games this season.

Miller has now held eight straight opponents to under two goals dating back to last season. This season, he has made 32 saves and allowed just one goal, good for a save percentage of .967 and a goals-against average of 0.24.

Ryan Petyak made four saves for Catholic (0-0-2), which held a 13-10 advantage in shots.

Earlier in the day at Washington College Soccer Classic, Wesley (2-1-1) topped Rutgers-Newark (0-3) by a 4-1 final. Andy Kandil put Rutgers-Newark up 1-0 at 22:55, but the Wolverines scored the final four goals to win going away. Trevor Zimmer had one goal and two assists for Wesley, while Keny Heidtmann, Ryan Diehl, and Adam Elangdy each scored one goal and Dean Caton had one assist. Bobby Reese made 12 saves for Rutgers-Newark in the loss. Edward Hunt made five stops for Wesley, which held a 20-8 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.

Both the Shoremen (2-1-1) and Wesley notched a tie and a win at the two-day event, but the Shoremen took the trophy by virtue of a fewest goals allowed tiebreaker.

The Shoremen are back in action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. game at Goucher College.
