5, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The last time that Ursinus College and Washington College met in men's soccer, the Bears used an outburst of three goals in five minutes to defeat the Shoremen. This time around, it was Washington which put up three goals in a short span to take control of the game en route to a 5-1 victory over the visiting Bears this afternoon at Kibler Field. The Shoremen improved to 6-3-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play with the win, while Ursinus dropped to 5-5-1 and 1-3. Ursinus scored on the first shot of the game when John Dugo knocked in a goal off a feed from Mike Papenburg at 6:21. The Shoremen came back to score on their first three shots on the afternoon, in a span of under eight minutes. Sophomore forward David Dudick (Hudson, OH/Western Reserve Academy) started things off when he knocked in a deflected ball at 14:12 to extend his goal-scoring streak to four games. Senior forward T.J. Velykis (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Regional) followed with a goal on a 20-yard direct kick at 15:32 and senior back Sean Mulcahy (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) scored on a penalty kick at 21:49 to give WC a 3-1 advantage. The Shoremen tacked on two more goals in the second half. Dudick, who has scored six goals in the last four contests, scored off a pass from freshman midfielder Jeff String (Woolwich Township, NJ/Kingsway Regional) at 63:20. Senior back Steve Yurchak (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Regional) found sophomore midfielder Tom Baker (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) for the final goal of the game at 68:52. Shoreman sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Miller (Bel Air, MD/Fallston) made six saves and allowed one goal before being pulled late in the game. The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. Centennial game at Johns Hopkins. Box Score
