WC Tops Garnet in Final Home Game
Velykis Has All Three Shore Assists

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Playing in his final home game, senior forward T.J. Velykis (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Regional) notched three assists to lead the Washington College Shoremen to a 3-1 victory over visiting Swarthmore at a cold and rain-soaked Kibler Field this afternoon. Sophomore forward David Dudick (Hudson, OH/Western Reserve Academy) scored two of the Shoremen's goals in the win.

After neither team scored in the first half, Washington (8-7-2, 3-4-1 Centennial) got on the board at 54:31 when senior midfielder Tim Buckless (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll), also playing in his final home game, knocked in a corner kick from Velykis. The Shoremen pushed the lead to 2-0 when Velykis found Dudick for a goal at 65:48. Swarthmore (5-12-1, 0-8) cut the lead to one on a goal by Charlie Taylor at 74:22, but the Shoremen held the Garnet off for the rest of the contest and Dudick scored the final goal off a Velykis pass at 89:51 to round out the scoring.

The Shoremen got solid play from two other seniors playing in their final home - backs Steve Yurchak (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Regional) and Brian Kearney (Salisbury, MD/Portsmouth Abbey, RI).

Washington outshot Swarthmore, 19-7, in the contest, though the Garnet did hold an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.

The Shoremen finish their season Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at McDaniel.
