14, 2002 ARLINGTON, VA -- The Washington College men's soccer team played to a 2-2 tie with host Marymount University this evening. Junior forward/midfielder Geoff Foltyn (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall) scored his sixth goal of the season for the Shoremen (3-1-1), extending his goal-scoring streak to five games. Foltyn opened the scoring at 32:25 when he scored off an assist from WC sophomore midfielder Justin Layfield (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall). Marymount (0-5-1) tied things up at 34:29 when Jim Richards scored off a Ricardo Navas assist. In the second half, Layfield gave the Shoremen a 2-1 lead at 70:29 off a feed from freshman forward Jaron Putmon (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), but the Saints tied things up again at the 84:51 mark when David Newman scored an unassisted goal. The Shoremen outshot the Saints, 30-15, and held a 13-5 advantage in corner kicks, but solid play from Marymount goalkeeper Brian Craddock helped the Saints earn the draw. Craddock made ten saves, none bigger than a stop of a penalty kick off the foot of WC senior forward T.J. Velykis (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Regional) at 111:11. Sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Miller (Bel Air, MD/Fallston) made seven saves for the Shoremen. The Shoremen return to action next Saturday with their Centennial Conference opener, a 3:00 p.m. game at defending league champion Gettysburg. Box Score
