30, 2002 HARRISONBURG, VA -- The Fall 2002 season for Washington College athletics started off on a positive note today as the WC men's soccer team defeated host Eastern Mennon ite University, 3-1, at the EMU Soccer Classic. Junior forward/midfielder Geoff Foltyn (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall), freshman forward Jaron Putmon (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), and senior midfielder Tim Buckless (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) scored the Shoremen's goals. Foltyn got the Shoremen on the board first with a goal at 24:54 off an assist from sophomore midfielder Tom Baker (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley). Putmon gave WC a 2-0 advantage with an unassisted goal at 36:36. Buckless opened the second half-scoring with his goal at 59:19 off a feed from sophomore forward David Dudick (Hudson, OH/Western Reserve Academy) that pushed the lead to 3-0. The Royals finally got on the board at 63:44 when Michael Stauffer scored off a pass from Ted Erickson. WC sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Miller (Bel Air, MD/Fallston) played well between the pipes, making nine saves in the win. EMU held a 21-14 advantage in shots and a 9-6 edge in corner kicks. The Shoremen return to action tomorrow with a 2:00 p.m. game against Bridgewater at the EMU Soccer Classic. Box Score
