27, 2001 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College men's soccer team lost its final game of the 2001 season today, 2-1, against visiting Centennial Conference rival Western Maryland. The Shoremen finish the year 3-13-1 overall and 1-8 in conference play, while the Green Terror improves to 13-4 and 6-3. Both of Western Maryland's goals came in the first half. Junior forward Ryan Tetteris (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) scored at 19:36, while junior midfielder Chris Wineke (Reisterstown, MD/North Carroll) followed with a goal of his own less than two minutes later at 21:34. The Shoremen got on the board early in the second half when freshman midfielder Justin Layfield (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall) score at 46:00, but Washington could not come back to tie the game. Shoreman freshman goalkeeper Ryan Miller (Bel Air, MD/Fallston) made 16 saves in the loss. The loss was Washington's eighth of 13 defeats to come by one goal during the 2001 campaign. In all, the Shoremen played ten games that were decided by one goal or ended in a tie. Box Score
