29, 2001 COLLEGEVILLE, PA -- The Washington College men's soccer team fell to 1-7-1 overall and 0-4 in the Centennial Conference with a 3-2 loss at Ursinus this afternoon. The Shoremen held the Bears (3-7, 1-3) off the board for all but a five-minute span in the game. The contest was scoreless until the 58th minute, when Ursinus senior midfielder Mark Drinker (Perkasie, PA/Lansdale Catholic) scored to start the Bear spurt. Junior forward/midfielder Mike Papenberg (Riverton, NJ/Palmyra) added another goal off a penalty kick two minutes later. Drinker tallied another goal in the 63rd minute to put Ursinus up by three. The Shoremen tried to mount a rally late, scoring in the 82nd minute on a goal by freshman midfielder/forward Kyle Woodford (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth Abbey) and in the 85th minute on a goal by junior midfielder T.J. Velykis (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Regional), but could not come back to even the score. Velykis also picked up an assist on Woodford's goal. Washington held an 18-16 advantage in shots and an 11-5 edge in corner kicks. The game was Washington's sixth in nine games that was decided by one goal or ended in a tie. The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. home game against Catholic. Box Score
