Shoremen Roll Past Garnet
WC Picks Up First Centennial Win

SWARTHMORE, PA -- The Washington College men's soccer team picked up its first Centennial Conference win of the season, defeating host Swarthmore College, 5-1, this afternoon. The Shoremen improve to 3-12-1 overall and 1-7 in league play, while the Garnet dropped to 7-11 and 1-7.

WC junior defender Tim Buckless (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) scored the game's first goal, unassisted at 9:58. Freshman forward Justin Layfield (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall) followed with a goal at 13:11 that was assisted by senior midfielder Chris Hastings (Glenelg, MD/River Hill) and freshman forward Dave Dudick (Hudson, OH/Western Reserve Academy). Junior midfielder T.J. Velykis (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Regional) rounded out the first-half scoring at 29:58 off a feed from freshman forward Tom Baker (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley). Velykis has scored at least one goal in five consecutive games.

The Shoremen added two more goals in the second half. Sophomore midfielder Michael Dyal (West Palm Beach, FL/Hotchkiss School, CT) scored off a Dudick pass at 54:07, while Hastings knocked in a goal at 66:08 that was assisted by sophomore forward Geoff Foltyn (Baltimore, MD/Calvert Hall). The Garnet ended WC's shutout bid at 87:50 when sophomore forward Amir Jaima (West Lebanon, NH/Dublin) scored off an assist from junior back Cameron MacDearmid (Topsfield, MA/Brooks School).

Shoreman freshman goalkeeper Ryan Miller (Bel Air, MD/Fallston) made seven saves in the win.

Washington finishes its season Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. home Centennial Conference game against Western Maryland.
