31, 2001 UPPER MONTCLAIR, NJ -- The Washington College men's soccer team lost a nail-biting season opener today at Montclair State, falling 3-2 in overtime to the Red Hawks. Freshman forward Tom Baker (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) and junior defender Tim Buckless (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) each scored a goal for the Shoremen in the loss. MSU sophomore midfielder Osei Bonsu (Parlin, NJ/Old Bridge) opened the scoring by converting a corner kick set-up from freshman midfielder Andrew Macho (N. Arlington, NJ/N. Arlington) at the 6:41 mark. Baker tied the game up at 41:30, scoring off a cross from WC junior midfielder Steve Yurchak (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Regional). Bonsu scored again in the second half, this time unassisted and from 15 yards out, to put the Red Hawks up 2-1 50:35 into the game. Buckless evened the score for the Shoremen, redirecting a pass from senior midfielder Chris Hastings (Glenelg, MD/River Hill) 64:05 into the contest. The Red Hawks won the game at the 97:32 mark when freshman midfielder Matt Caswell (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) scored off a direct kick. The Shoremen return to action tomorrow with a 2:00 p.m. game at William Patterson. Box Score
