12, 2001 TOWSON, MD -- An unusual goal by freshman forward Dave Dudick (Hudson, OH/Western Reserve Academy) at the 115:45 mark gave the Washington College men's soccer team its first win of the season today - a 2-1 double overtime victory over the host Gophers at Beldon Field. It was the third time in four games this season that the Shoremen (1-2-1) have played extra minutes. WC struck first in the game, with just 9:17 expired, when Dudick scored his first collegiate goal. The Gophers (1-4) tied the score at the 11:53 mark when a redirected ball off the foot of junior midfielder/defender Loy McCarl (Elkton, MD/Bohemia Manor) trickled into the Washington goal. The game remained scoreless for nearly 104 minutes after McCarl's goal, even though Washington got off 16 shots in the second half and overtime. The game-winning goal began as pass from Dudick that was deflected by a Goucher defender trying to knock the ball away. The Shoremen open play in the Centennial Conference Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. home game against Gettysburg. Box Score
