15, 2001 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College men's soccer team dropped its Centennial Conference opener today to Gettysburg College, 2-1, at Kibler Field. The Shoremen's overall record fell to 1-3-1 with the loss, while the Bullets moved to 1-0 in the conference and 5-1 overall. The Shoremen got on the board first, just over four minutes into the game, when freshman forward Dave Dudick (Hudson, OH/Western Reserve Academy) stole a Bullet pass 40 yards out and beat two defenders to knock in a goal. Dudick has now scored Washington's last three goals. The 1-0 lead held up throughout the first half. Gettysburg evened the score at the 47:51 mark when sophomore midfielder Will Hohman (Landenburg, PA/St. Mark's) tapped in a goal off an assist from junior midfielder Michael Bruno (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Township). The score remained tied until the 74:26 mark before sophomore defender Andrew Smith (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) booted in an unassisted goal. Bullet junior goalkeeper Steve Kopp (Upper Montclair, NJ/Montclair) made seven saves in the win, while WC freshman Ryan Miller (Bel Air, MD/Fallston) recorded nine. Gettysburg held a 13-8 advantage in shots on goal. The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. game at local rival Salisbury University. Box Score
