Shoremen Play to Tie with Cabrini
Second OT Contest in Three Games

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College men's soccer team played to a 3-3 overtime tie this afternoon in its home opener against Cabrini College. The draw marked the second time in three games this season that the Shoremen (0-2-1) played extra minutes.

Cabrini (1-0) struck first in the game when sophomore back Jason Catagnus (Philadelphia, PA/Arhcbishop Ryan) found the right corner of the WC goal after receiving a pass from senior forward Michael Braun (Deptford, NJ/Deptford) at the 13:00 mark. The Shoremen evened the score when senior midfielder Chris Hastings (Glenelg, MD/River Hill) scored off a cross from junior midfielder T.J. Velykis (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Regional) 39:02 into the contest.

The Cavaliers took the lead again in the second half when junior forward Michael Rennie (Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) scored on a penalty kick. The Shoremen evened the score again less than four minutes later as Hastings assisted on a Velykis goal.

Washington appeared to have taken control of the game at the 88:43 mark when freshman forward Dave Dudick (Hudson, OH/Western Reserve Academy) found freshman midfielder/forward Kyle Woodford (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth Abbey)for a goal, but Catagnus tied the game for good with an unassisted marker at 89:20.

The Cavaliers held a 9-7 edge in shots on goal, while the Shoremen held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Shoremen return to action one week from today with a 4:00 p.m. game at Goucher College.
