Leekley Wins Silver Medal at Masters Nationals
WC Men's Rowing Coach, Alum Rows in Second-Place Pair

CHERRY HILL, NJ -- Washington College head men's rowing coach John Leekley, who is also a 2001 graduate of the school, won a silver medal at the 2009 USRowing Masters National Championship held this past weekend on the Cooper River in New Jersey. Leekley, rowing for the the Chester River Rowing Club, was a part of the second-place boat in the Men's Heavyweight A Pair.

Leekley and William Newell completed the course in a time of 3:39.04 to earn the silver medal. The Greater Columbus Rowing Association was first in 3:30.62, Swan Creek Rowing Club was third in 3:43.97, and Community Rowing was fourth in 3:49.71.

Leekley also rowed in the Chester River Rowing Club's boat in the Mixed B Quad, which placed fourth in its final in 3:31.75. Chester River Rowing Club was second in its heat in the event in 3:28.07. Leekley was joined by Newell, Deborah Davis, and Dinah Riordan in the quad.
