Varsity Four Wins in Boston
Novice Eight Second at Hopkins

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College men's rowing team's varsity four defeated Bates this morning in Boston, MA. The Shoremen's varsity four finished its race against Bates in Boston in 6:53.7. Bates completed the race in 7:17.3. The rest of the Shoremen were in action at the Johns Hopkins Invitational, where Washington's novice eight captured second place.

Senior Tom Murray (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) served as the coxswain for the Shoremen's varsity four. Sophomore Hugh McAdam (Hollis, NH/Worcester Academy) sat stroke, senior Mike Philipp (Newark, DE/Newark) was in the three seat, junior Andrew Bright (Gambrills, MD/DeMatha) sat in the two seat, and junior Ryan Trone (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) was the bow.

At the Johns Hopkins Invitational, Washington's novice eight finished second in its final in 6:10 after winning its heat. Maryland won the race in 5:59, George Mason was third in 6:12, Johns Hopkins fourth in 6:14, and St. John's (MD) fifth in 6:21. Freshman Carla Wiemers (Kensington, MD/Holy Cross) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's novice eight. Freshman Derek Trott (Huntingtown, MD/Northern) sat stroke, freshman Steve Reuter (Howard County, MD/Long Reach) was in the seven seat, freshman Zak Morey (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) was in the six seat, freshman Brandon Riker (Marlboro, VT/Twin Valley) sat in the five seat, freshman Clint McKee (Woodbine, MD/St. John's at Prospect Hall) was in the four seat, freshman Cole Eshbach (Columbia, PA/Columbia) sat in the three seat, freshman Matt Icenroad (Sykesville, MD/Century) was in the two seat, and freshman Will Bruce (Abington, PA/Abington) was the bow.

The Shoremen's pair was third at Hopkins in 7:39. Loyola won the pair in 7:12, Johns Hopkins was second in 7:12.6, and Richard Stockton was fourth in 7:52. Junior Adam Askham (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) and sophomore Chris Broadwell (Virginia Beach, VA/Cape Henry Collegiate School) rowed in the men's pair for the Shoremen.

The Shoremen will host the Mother and Son Regatta next Saturday on the Chester River.
