Shoremen Finish 5th Overall at ACLS
Varsity Four Takes Third Place

CARLISLE, PA -- The Washington College men's rowing team finished fifth overall of eight schools at the Atlantic Collegiate League Sprints regatta today in Carlisle, PA. Washington finished with 11 points at the regatta. Ithaca won the regatta with 20 points, while Johns Hopkins was second with 18.

Washington's varsity four finished third in 6:44.56. Mary Washington won the race in 6:36.29. Senior Tom Murray (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) served as the coxswain for the Shoremen's varsity four. Sophomore Hugh McAdam (Hollis, NH/Worcester Academy) sat stroke, senior Mike Philipp (Newark, DE/Newark) was in the three seat, junior Andrew Bright (Gambrills, MD/DeMatha) sat in the two seat, and junior Ryan Trone (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) was the bow.

Washington's novice eight recorded the second-fastest time in its race at 6:35.38, but was bumped down to third due to a penalty. Ithaca won the novice eight. Freshman Victoria Pace (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's novice eight. Freshman Derek Trott (Huntingtown, MD/Northern) sat stroke, freshman Steve Reuter (Howard County, MD/Long Reach) was in the seven seat, freshman Brandon Riker (Marlboro, VT/Twin Valley) was in the six seat, freshman Zak Morey (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) sat in the five seat, freshman Clint McKee (Woodbine, MD/St. John's at Prospect Hall) was in the four seat, freshman Cole Eshbach (Columbia, PA/Columbia) sat in the three seat, freshman Will Bruce (Abington, PA/Abington) was in the two seat, and freshman Matt Icenroad (Sykesville, MD/Century) was the bow.

Junior Adam Askham (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) and sophomore Chris Broadwell (Virginia Beach, VA/Cape Henry Collegiate School) rowed in the men's pair for the Shoremen, finishing fourth in 7:29.15. Whitworth won the men's pair.

The Shoremen's novice four was also fourth, finishing in 7:24.8. Whitworth's "B" boat won the novice four. Freshman Carla Wiemers (Kensington, MD/Holy Cross) served as the coxswain for the Shoremen's novice four boat. Freshman Derek Trott (Huntingtown, MD/Northern) sat stroke, freshman Steve Reuter (Howard County, MD/Long Reach) sat in the three seat, sophomore Eric Abbott (Mt. Airy, MD/Queen Anne's County) was in the two seat, and freshman Zak Morey (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin) was the bow.

Based on head-to-head results with Mary Washington today, Washington College was awarded the Mother and Son Championship, 26 points to 25. The annual Mother and Son regatta between Washington and Mary Washington was canceled last weekend.
