30, 2005 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College novice rowers hosted the Tapke Chase Regatta this morning in a steady breeze and under clear skies on the Chester River. The novice Shoremen finished second in both the men's eight and in the men's four. Washington completed the men's eight in 17:10.88, finishing behind first-place Mary Washington (15:53.23), but ahead of third-place Johns Hopkins (21:01.93). The Shoremen's time of 18:41.69 in the men's four was also good for second place. A boat of Washington College alumni won the race in 17:55.33, while Chester River Rowing Club was third (20:13.37). The Washington College men's rowing team will finish the fall season at the Head of the Occoquan next Sunday.
