April 30, 2005 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College rowing teams defeated the University of Mary Washington, 52-51, to win the Mother and Son Regatta held this morning on the Chester River. Johns Hopkins and Richard Stockton also competed in the regatta, but were not included in the team scoring. Washington's men's rowers had a boat finish second in each of the three races the Shoremen entered. In the men's varsity four, Washington's "A" boat finished second in 6:02.5, while the Shoremen's "B" boat was third in 6:13.9 and the Shoremen's "C" boat was fifth in 6:53.0. The Shoremen's "A" boat finished just seven-tenths of a second behind first-place Mary Washington. The Shoremen's novice four finished second in its race in 5:57.3. In the men's varsity eight, Washington's "A" boat was second in 5:29.9, while the Shoremen's "B" boat finished fourth in 6:05.4. Complete results can be found at the end of this release. Junior Tom Murray (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) served as coxswain of the varsity four "A" boat . Sophomore Andrew Bright (Gambrills, MD/DeMatha) sat stroke, junior Mike Philipp (Newark, DE/Newark) sat in the three seat, sophomore Adam Askham (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) was in the two seat, and junior Martin Dunphy (Finksburg, MD/Westminster) was the bow. Junior Amanda Whittemore (Media, PA/Academy of Notre Dame) was the coxswain of the varsity four "B" boat. Sophomore Jared Hornyak (Trenton, NJ/Hamilton) sat stroke, sophomore Ryan Trone (New Oxford, PA/New Oxford) was in the three seat, sophomore Edward Mundy (Winnetka, IL/New Trier) sat in the two seat, and sophomore Adrian Peterson (Perryville, MD/Perryville) was the bow. Freshman Shrijana Puri (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) served as the coxswain of the varsity four "C" boat. Freshman Spencer Case (Hudson, OH/Western Reserve Academy) sat stroke, junior Kevin Marshall (Silver Spring, MD/RHSM, UT) was in the three seat, junior Rick Adrian (Baltimore, MD/Towson) sat in the two seat, while sophomore Matthew Harding (Forest Hill, MD/C. Milton Wright) was the bow. Freshman Meredith Weaver (Huntingtown, MD/Calvert) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's novice four. Freshman Chris Broadwell (Virginia Beach, VA/Cape Henry Collegiate School) sat stroke, freshman Trent Cosentino (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's School) was in the three seat, junior Jason Brown (Baltimore, MD/Randallstown) was in the two seat, and freshman Hugh McAdam (Hollis, NH/Worcester Academy) was the bow. Murray was the coxswain of the Shoremen's varsity eight "A" boat. Bright sat stroke, Philipp was in the seven seat, Askham was in the six seat, Trone was in the five seat, Cosentino was in the four seat, Brown was in the three seat, Mundy was in the two seat, and Dunphy was the bow. Sophomore Caitlin Onyx (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) was the coxswain for the Shoremen's varsity eight "B" boat. Hornyak sat stroke, McAdam was in the seven seat, Marshall was in the six seat, Peterson was in the five seat, Adrian was in the four seat, Case was in the three seat, Broadwell was in the two seat, and freshman Kevin McGarry (North Wildwood, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) was the bow.
