Novice Four Wins in Boston
Varsity Four Narrowly Beaten by UNH

BOSTON, MA -- The Washington College men's rowing team competed in two races at a multiple-school regatta in Boston, MA, today. Washington's novice four beat Wesleyan in a time of 6:54.7, while the Shoremen's varsity four lost to Division I New Hampshire by only 2.1 seconds, finishing in 6:55.1.

Washington's novice four was tied with Wesleyan with 1,000 meters left in the race before Washington pulled ahead with 500 meters to go and went on to win by seven seconds.

The Shoremen's varsity four was even with New Hampshire for most of the race, before New Hampshire pulled ahead with 800 meters left and eventually built a boat-length lead over the Shoremen. With 250 meters left, Washington closed the gap, but New Hampshire held on for the close win.

Junior Tom Murray (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) served as coxswain of the varsity four boat . Sophomore Andrew Bright (Gambrills, MD/DeMatha) sat stroke, junior Mike Philipp (Newark, DE/Newark) sat in the three seat, sophomore Jared Hornyak (Trenton, NJ/Hamilton) was in the two seat, and junior Martin Dunphy (Finksburg, MD/Westminster) was the bow.

Freshman Meredith Weaver (Huntingtown, MD/Calvert) was the coxswain of the Shoremen's novice four boat. Freshman Chris Broadwell (Virginia Beach, VA/Cape Henry Collegiate School) sat stroke, freshman Trent Cosentino (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's School) was in the three seat, junior Jason Brown (Baltimore, MD/Randallstown) was in the two seat, and freshman Hugh McAdam (Hollis, NH/Worcester Academy) was the bow.

The Shoremen return to action tomorrow in Worcester, MA, against WPI, Clark, and Holy Cross.
