27, 2004 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College men's rowing team finished first in three races this morning at the Caspersen Cup Regatta, held on the Chester River. The Shoremen combined with the Shorewomen to win the cup outright for Washington College for the first time since 2000. Washington and Johns Hopkins shared the cup each of the past two years. All three of the Shoremen's first place finishes came in fours. The Shoremen's "A" boat took first in the men's varsity four in 6:11.94. Johns Hopkins was second in 6:31.23, St. John's (MD) was third in 6:38.92, and Washington's "B" boat was fourth in 7:01.32. In the men's lightweight four, Washington took first place in 6:25.3. Hopkins was second in 6:30.5. In the men's frosh/novice four, the Shoremen finished first in 6:37.1. Johns Hopkins' "A" boat was second in 6:41.58, while St. Johns finished third in 6:51.98 and JHU's "B" boat was fourth in 7:29.00. In the men's varsity eight, Johns Hopkins captured first place in 5:50.03. Washington was second in 6:02.95 and St. John's finished third in 6:06.09. St. John's crossed the finish first in the men's pair, 4.6 seconds ahead of second-place Washington. Hopkins finished third, 19.93 seconds behind the Shoremen. Complete times from the race were unavailable. Washington finished with 47 points in the regatta. Hopkins totaled 41 points and St. John's tallied 37 points. The Shoremen return to action next Saturday when they host Mary Washington in a match regatta on the Chester River. |
