Hopkins Wins Only Race at
Shortened Tapke Chase

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Washington College's novice-only Tapke Chase was limited to one race this morning as poor conditions caused an early termination of the regatta. The novice men's eight, the first scheduled race, was the only race completed.

Johns Hopkins won the novice men's eight in 17:37, while Mary Washington's A boat was second in 18:16 and Washington College was third in 18:41. Mary Washington's B boat did not finish the race due to the conditions.

A wind of 18 knots coming out of the South helped churn up the Chester River and caused whitecaps along the course. The opening race began at 10:10 a.m. and boats for subsequent races were held at the dock starting at 10:30 a.m. The regatta was officially terminated at 11:00 a.m. when it was determined that the conditions showed no signs of improvement.
