19, 2003 BOSTON, MA -- The Washington College men's rowing team competed in the collegiate eight at the Head of the Charles Regatta, the world's largest rowing regatta, this afternoon in Boston. Washington finished 35th of 40 boats in the race in 16:47.258. Sophomore Tom Murray (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) served as Washington's coxswain. With him in the boat were freshman Andrew Bright (Gambrills, MD/DeMatha) at stroke, senior Justin Smith (Yardley, PA/George School) in the seven seat, senior Travis Elliott (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) in the six seat, senior captain Jonathan Lange (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) in the five seat, senior Dwayne Yerger (Naples, FL/The Hill School, PA) in the four seat, freshman Adam Askham (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) in the three seat, sophomore Martin Dunphy (Finksburg, MD/Westminster) in the two seat, and senior Greg Smith (Sykesville, MD/Mount St. Joseph) at bow. The University of Minnesota won the race in 14:54.176. Minerva Rowing Club finished second, while the United States Coast Guard Academy was third. Next weekend, WC's varsity rowers will travel to the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia on Saturday and the novice rowers will host the Tapke Chase Sunday on the Chester River. |
