Lightweight Four Leads WC at ACSL

CARLISLE, PA -- The Washington College men's rowing team competed at the Atlantic Collegiate Sprints League Regatta in Carlisle, PA, today. A second-place finish by the lightweight four was WC's highest finish of the competition.

The lightweight four finished second to Mary Washington. Junior Jennifer Daley (Baltimore, MD) was the coxswain of the lightweight four boat. Freshman Graham Mellen (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville) sat stroke, junior Jonathan Lange (Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) was in the three seat, junior Greg Smith (Sykesville, MD/Mount St. Joseph) was in the two seat, and junior Brant Whisler (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland) was the bow.

Washington advanced to the finals of the varsity four and wound up finishing fourth of eight boats overall. Junior Nick Mikhalevsky (Arlington, VA/St. Andrew's School, MD) was the coxswain of WC's varsity four boat. Senior Sean Askham (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) sat stroke, senior John Dolan (Millsboro, DE/St. Andrew's School) was in the three seat, junior Travis Elliott (Willow Street, PA) was in the two seat, and junior Justin Smith (Titusville, NJ/George School) was the bow.

The Shoremen also finished fourth in the frosh/novice four. Freshman Tom Murray (Gilbertsville, PA) served as coxswain of the novice four. Freshman Martin Dunphy (Finksburg, MD) sat stroke, freshman Rick Adrian (Baltimore, MD) was in the three seat, freshman Kevin Marshall (Silver Spring, MD) was in the two seat, and freshman Mike Philipp was the bow.
