13, 2002 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College men's rowing team won the frosh/novice four today in a match regatta against Mary Washington. The regatta was scored by combining the men's and women's scores and WC came out on top, 38-36. In the first men's race, the varsity four, Mary Washington took first in 6:38.6. WC's lightweight boat was second in 6:48.4 and its heavyweight boat was third in 6:55.3. In the frosh/novice four, the Shoremen took an early lead, but Mary Washington was making a strong push before catching a crab. WC pulled away to finish in 7:37.0 and the Eagles crossed the finish line in 9:07.6. The last race of the day was the closest. In the varsity four, Mary Washington's A boat and WC's boat were within a boat length of each other the entire course. The Shoremen took a seven-seat lead early, but the boats were even by the 500 meter mark. Mary Washington was up three seats at 1500 meters, but Washington pulled even again. The Eagles ended up winning by roughly one foot, finishing in 6:48.1. The Shoremen finished in 6:48.6. Mary Washington's B boat finished in 7:14.2. The Shoremen return to action next Saturday at the Murphy Cup. |
