May 5, 2009 CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Washington College men's lacrosse team has selected its captains for the 2010 season - defenseman Thom Cecere (Edgewater, MD/St. Mary's), attackman Brendan O'Leary (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck), defenseman Bobby Baur (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air), and midfielder Emmert Schamburg (Reisterstown, MD/Boys Latin). "This group will lead a very talented and experienced team into the 2010 season," notes Washington College head coach J.B. Clarke. "The work ethic of these four is the main reason they were chosen by their teammates as captains. They are leaders on and off the field." O'Leary played in all 16 games this season, starting 15. He finished with 31 total points (21 goals, 10 assists), third-most on the team. Cecere made five starts in 16 games, scored one goal, recorded one assist, and tied for the team lead in caused turnovers (17) and tied for second on the team in ground balls (43). Baur made 12 starts in 15 games and recorded 24 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers. Schmaburg made five starts in 16 games, scored one goal, and recorded 19 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers. O'Leary and Baur will be seniors next season. Cecere, who did not play his sophomore season due to injury, will be a redshirt junior. Schamburg will be a junior. "The seniors and captains of 2009 left a strong impression over the last two weeks of the season," added Clarke. "Their message was heard loud and clear by the underclassmen." |
