LEXINGTON, VA -- Senior attackman Kolyn Kirby (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) scored the game-winning goal with 58 seconds remaining in the extra session to lift 11th-ranked Washington College to a 12-11 overtime men's lacrosse victory over host Washington and Lee this afternoon at the W&L Turf Field in Lexington, VA. The Shoremen improved to 4-0 on the season with the win, while the Generals fell to 2-2 with the loss.

Washington and Lee jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the game after one quarter as Ned Rider scored back-to-back goals with 2:47 and 37 seconds remaining, respectively, to give the Generals the three-goal cushion after one period.

The score remained 5-2 for over six minutes into the second quarter before the Shoremen reeled off four unanswered goals to take a 6-5 lead at the half. Senior attackman Chris Read (Baltimore, MD/Boys Latin) scored the final two goals of the half with 4:17 and 2:27 remaining, respectively, to put the Shoremen in front.

Washington extended its lead to 9-7 when Read assisted on a Kirby goal with 5:56 left in the third quarter. The Generals trimmed that lead back to one goal 18 seconds later when Harry St. John scored an unassisted goal.

W&L tied things up once again by opening the fourth quarter scoring on a goal scored by Rider and assisted by Fishman with 13:20 to go. The Generals pulled in front, 10-9, when Keigler scored a man-down goal off a feed from Spotty Robbins with 8:39 remaining, but an extra-man goal by Read off an assist from junior midfielder Matt Moreton (Darnestown, MD/Northwest) 14 seconds later evened the score at 10-10. St. John put the Generals back in front with a goal with 4:42 left in regulation, but a goal by Read with 2:59 left tied the score at 11-11. Will Englehart got a shot off for W&L in the final seconds of regulation, but it went wide.
