#12 Shoremen Reel In Marlins, 15-9
Read Tallies Five Goals, One Assist

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Senior attackman Chris Read (Baltimore, MD/Boys Latin) scored five goals and assisted on another as 12th-ranked host Washington College defeated visiting Virginia Wesleyan, 15-9, in a non-conference men's lacrosse game this afternoon on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. The Shoremen improved to 3-0 with the win, while the Marlins fell to 1-2 with the loss.

The Shoremen jumped out in front early, building a 4-0 lead after one quarter. The Marlins twice cut the lead to two goals during the second quarter, but Washington held a 7-4 lead at halftime. The Shoremen then put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring Virginia Wesleyan, 6-2, in the period, to stretch the lead to 13-6.

Read was one of five Shoremen to score multiple goals in the game. Senior midfielder Nick Gregory (Riva, MD/South River) fired in three goals, while junior midfielder Matt Moreton (Darnestown, MD/Northwest), senior attackman Kolyn Kirby (Chestertown, MD/Kent County), and junior midfielder Casey O'Connor (Crownsville, MD/Archbishop Spalding) each added two goals. Moreton also had a pair of assists, as did junior attackman Jimmy Kielek (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley).

Maicin Dunk led the Marlins with two goals and one assist, while Jordan Kenney, Brett Morris, and Drew Langis each scored two goals. Tom Skartsiaris kept the Marlins in the game by making 23 saves in goal and allowing 14 scores. The Shoremen scored one of their goals while Skartsiaris was on the sideline after being shaken up by a hit.

The Shoremen dominated face-offs, winning 19 of the game's 27. Junior midfielder Thayer Damm (Huntingdon Valley, PA/LaSalle) was 16-of-23 on face-offs for the Shoremen and scooped up a game-high eight ground balls. The Shoremen enjoyed a 53-29 advantage in shots and a 51-25 advantage in ground balls.

The Shoremen return to action one week from today with a 1:00 p.m. game at 15th-ranked Washington and Lee.
