18, 2007 DOVER, DE Rashawn Johnson tallied a double-double by scoring 27 points and grabbing 12 rebounds to lead host Wesley College past visiting Washington College, 73-60, in non-conference men's basketball action tonight at Wentworth Gymnasium in a contest against Delmarva rivals. Wesley improved to 5-2 overall with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 2-7. The Shoremen led 14-13 with 10:04 remaining in the opening half on a layup by sophomore forward James Whall (Freehold, NJ/Freehold), before the Wolverines went on a 10-2 run to take 23-16 lead with 7:20 remaining in the opening half on a pair of free throws by Kevin Johnson. The hosts would expand the lead to 43-30, before Washington scored the last seven points of the first half to trim the lead to 43-37 at halftime. Washington cut it to 47-43 with 17:22 left on a score by sophomore forward Bobby Klepacki (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) before Wesley would pull away. The Wolverines made it 56-46 with 14:03 remaining on a pair of free throws by Alphonzo Wright. Wesley would build its biggest lead to 16 points at 72-56 with 1:51 remaining. Evan Martin added 11 points in the win for Wesley. Klepacki led the Shoremen with a career-best 13 points on 6-for-8 shooting. Whall and junior guard Tim Kohlrus (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) each netted 10 points. Junior guard Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) dished out a game-high four assists. This was the first meeting between the two schools since a dramatic 125-124 double overtime victory for the Shoremen on January 30, 2003. The Shoremen return to action on Saturday, January 5, with a 2:00 p.m. non-conference home game against Randolph. |
