16, 2008 WESTMINSTER, MD Chris Prior registered a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 16 rebounds to lead host McDaniel College to a 74-67 Centennial Conference men's basketball victory on Saturday afternoon at the Gill Center. The Green Terror improve to 15-8 overall and 10-6 in the conference, while the Shoremen fall to 4-19 and 1-15 respectively. McDaniel avenges a 73-66 loss to Washington on January 16 in Chestertown, MD. With the score tied, 11-11, McDaniel would take the lead for good on a three-pointer by Miguel Jones to give the hosts a 14-11 lead and would spark a 21-8 Green Terror run to give the hosts a 32-19 lead with 6:08 remaining in the opening half. The Shoremen would respond and trimmed the hosts lead to 43-36 at halftime using a 17-11 spurt. It was capped by a pair of free throws by sophomore forward James Whall (Freehold, NJ/Freehold). Whall netted 10 of his career-best 16 points in the opening 20 minutes. Washington opened the second half scoring nine of the first 13 points to cut the deficit to 47-45 in the first 3:34, capped off by a pair of free throws by sophomore guard Alan Kines (Towson, MD/Towson). McDaniel would answer with eight straight points to build up a 55-45 lead, spearheaded by two traditional three-point plays. Washington would cut the deficit to seven on three occasions, but could not draw any closer. Ryan Finch led McDaniel with 16 points and was one of four players in double figures for the hosts. In addition to Prior's 14 points, Jones had 13 points and T.J. Odunlomi chipped in with 11. For the Shoremen, Kines scored a game-high 17 points, which is also a career-best. In addition to his 16 points, Whall grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Junior guard Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) scored 13 points and sophomore guard Andrew Chambers (Williamsport, PA/St. Maria Goretti) netted 10 points. McDaniel shot 43.4% from the floor and Washington shot 43.1% from the field. The Green Terror drained six three-pointers to just one for the Shoremen. McDaniel doubled up Washington in second-chance points, 18-9, while Washington nipped McDaniel in points in the paint by a 34-32 margin. The hosts outrebounded the guests, 40-30.. The Shoremen return to action Wednesday with a 8:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game versus Swarthmore in the home finale. |
