2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD Visiting Johns Hopkins University raced out to a 38-19 halftime lead en route to a 70-57 Centennial Conference men's basketball victory over host Washington College tonight in Cain Athletic Center. The Blue Jays improved to 11-7 overall and 7-4 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 4-14 and 1-10 with the loss. Hopkins led by at least 10 points throughout the second half of the win. The Blue Jays shot 52% from the field and 75% from the free-throw line in the game to Washington's 44% and 57%. Hopkins dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Shoremen, 36-18. Doug Polster led all scorers with 19 points for the Blue Jays on 7-of-9 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 shooting at the charity stripe. He also swiped five steals. Andrew Farber-Miller added 13 points and six rebounds, while Kevin Roach tallied a double-double of 11 points and 12 boards. John Alberici added 11 points off the Hopkins bench. Junior guard Tim Kohlrus (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) paced the Shoremen with 15 points and four steals, while sophomore guard Alan Kines (Towson, MD/Towson) and sophomore guard/forward Andrew Chambers (Williamsport, MD/St. Maria Goretti) each added 10 points. Sophomore guard Scott Hampton (Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) dished out five assists and swiped five steals in the loss. The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 4:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Gettysburg. |
