13, 2008 CHESTERTOWN, MD Visiting Haverford College improved to 6-15 overall and 4-11 in Centennial Conference play with a 76-65 men's basketball win over host Washington College tonight in Cain Athletic Center. The Shoremen slipped to 4-18 overall and 1-14 in conference play with the loss. The Fords raced out to a 37-23 halftime lead after shooting 50% from the field in the opening period. The Shoremen used a 10-2 run in the second half to cut the margin to 57-50 with 6:03 remaining, but could get no closer as the Fords scored the next seven points, capped off by a three-pointer by Chaz Thomas with 3:42 left, to put the game away. Haverford was just 36% from the field in the second half, but was 21-of-26 at the free-throw line over the final 20 minutes. Washington shot 62% from the field in the second half, but was just 2-of-6 at the line during the period. Mike Fratangelo scored 18 points to pace the Fords, while Brent Anderson turned in a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. Greg Rosnick scored 11 points and dished out seven assists without committing a turnover. Thomas added 10 points, six boards, and three steals. Junior guard Tim Kohlrus (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) led all scorers with 19 points for the Shoremen. Sophomore guard Alan Kines (Towson, MD/Towson) added 14 points, while junior guard Todd Green (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) chipped in 10. Sophomore guard Scott Hampton (Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) brought down a team-best six rebounds and dished out a team-high five assists. The Shoremen return to action Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. Centennial Conference game at McDaniel. |
