Men's Basketball Coaching Staff

Head Coach: Rob Nugent

Now in his ninth season at Washington College, Rob Nugent has already left his mark on the storied history of Shoremen Basketball. In his second season, he guided a team with no regular players taller than 6'3" to a Centennial Conference playoff berth in 2002-03. In 2005-06, Nugent guided the Shoremen to their first conference playoff win in six years and into the Centennial Conference semifinals. The 2008-09 Shoremen came within one game of qualifying for the Centennial Conference playoffs despite a roster featuring 10 freshmen.

Nugent came to the school after serving as the head coach of the men’s basketball and baseball teams at Southern Vermont College from 1999-2001. As head coach at Southern Vermont, he was responsible for managing all aspects of the basketball and baseball programs in the college's third year as a NCAA Division III member.

Before Southern Vermont, Nugent served as assistant basketball coach at Williams College gaining experience under Head Coach Harry Sheehy. During his tenure at Williams, his team twice participated in the NCAA Division III Final Four, was recognized twice as the Eastern College Athletic Conference Team of the Year, and was the 1998-1999 New England Champions.

Nugent was also a standout baseball player. Nugent’s baseball experience includes two seasons of playing semi-professional baseball in Ohio, highlighted by a tryout with the Cincinnati Reds organization. Nugent played center field and third base as a semi-pro and for one fall season at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

Assistant Coach: Jonathan Webb

Jonathan Webb, one of the most outstanding Washington College basketball players of the past decade, returns to his alma mater as an assistant coach for the 2009-10 season.

Webb, a 2006 graduate, was a four-year starter for the Shoremen, earning All-Centennial Conference honors three times and team Most Valuable Player honors twice. Despite being undersized, his low-post game and ability to stretch the defense made him one of the top frontcourt players in the conference. His 1,571 career points rank him fourth all-time in scoring for a program nearly a century old. He ranks among the top 10 career scorers and top 20 career rebounders (with 631) in the history of the Centennial Conference. Webb helped lead the Shoremen to the Centennial Conference Semifinals during both his freshman and senior seasons and was the male recipient of Washington College's Eldridge Eliason Award, given to "the senior male student and female student who, with scholastic standing in the upper half of the class, has accomplished the most in the field of athletics."

After earning his degree in Business Management from Washington College, Webb spent two years as a graduate assistant coach at Wesley College. In addition to his assistant coach duties, he also served as junior varsity coach and the team's academic coordinator. Webb completed an M.B.A. in Business Administration at Wesley in 2008. He spent the 2008-09 season as an assistant coach at Alfred University.
