Green Terror Stop Shoremen In 11, 7-6
Kaplan 4-for-5 For WC In Loss

WESTMINSTER, MD - McDaniel's Justin Reitz singled to left field to drive in Harold Baines with one out in the bottom of the 11th to give the Green Terror a 7-6 victory over visiting Washington College in Centennial Conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at Preston Field. McDaniel improves to 9-16 overall and 6-7 in conference action, while the Shoremen fall to 6-15 and 2-10 respectively.

Baines led off the bottom of the 11th with a single through the right side and took second base on a sacrifice. After an intentional walk, Reitz singled to drive in Baines from second for the game-winning run.

The Shoremen took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when senior Wes Anderson (Walkersville, MD/Walkersville) worked a full count and plated sophomore Brian Kramer (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) on a bases loaded walk. Washington added two runs in the top of the third when junior Tony Tozzolo (Calvert County, MD/Northern) drove in Kramer and junior Ben Kaplan (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) on a two-run double to left field. The guests tacked on a single run in the top of the fourth when Kaplan recorded a two-out single to score senior James Tidwell (Newark, DE/Charter School of Wilmington).

The Green Terror scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to 4-3. Reitz singled through the right side to knock in Baines and Zach Croft to cut the Washington lead to 4-2. McDaniel trimmed it to 4-3 when Russell Coover scored on a RBI groundout off the bat of Matthew Pace.

McDaniel tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth when Pace plated Reitz on an RBI groundout. The Green Terror took a 5-4 lead when Sergio Nieto drove in Troy Tipton on an RBI single through the left side.

Washington answered with two runs of its own in the top of the eighth to take a 6-5 lead. Anderson evened the score at 5-5 on a groundball off the bat of sophomore Matt Boucher (Alexandria, VA/Bishop Ireton) that was misplayed by a McDaniel player allowing Boucher to reach second base. Kramer drove in Kaplan on a sacrifice fly to left field to put the Shoremen up by one run.

In the bottom of the eighth, McDaniel would even the score. Andrew Worm singled up the middle to score Matt Teter to knot the game up at 6-6. The Green Terror loaded up the bases in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, but sophomore Tom Heppard (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) induced a fly ball to right-center to end the threat.

Tyler Persun picked up the victory and improves to 3-0 on the season for McDaniel, while junior Matt Swanson (Highland, MD/Mount St. Joseph) took the loss and falls to 0-1.

Baines, Reitz and Worm each had three hits in the victory for the Green Terror. Reitz drove in the three runs, while Baines crossed home plate twice. Tipton had two hits for McDaniel. For the Shoremen, Kaplan went 4-for-5, scoring two times. Anderson and Tozzolo each had two hits with Tozzolo driving in a pair for Washington.

The Shoremen return to action tomorrow with a 3:30 p.m. Centennial Conference road tilt at Johns Hopkins.
