Ithaca Bests Washington, 13-3
Tidwell and Boucher Register Three Hits Each For WC

CHESTERTOWN, MD - Eric Ferguson went 4-for-4, scored three runs and drove in two runs to spark visiting Ithaca College to a 13-3 win over host Washington College in a non-conference baseball game Saturday afternoon at Athey Field. The Bombers improved to 5-6 with the victory, while the Shoremen slipped to 4-5 with the loss.

The Bombers plated two runs in each of the first three innings and five of the first six innings. Ithaca got onto the board in the top of first when Matt Samela scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Rob Raux. Ithaca made it 2-0 when Ferguson scored on a Washington error. The visitors made it 4-0 in the second with a single by Ferguson that drove in Samela and Raux plated Ferguson on his second sacrifice fly in as many innings. Ithaca made it 5-0 on a sacrifice fly by Todd Czerno that drove in David Ahonen and Ferguson made it 6-0 on a RBI double that scored T.J. Abone.

Washington got onto the board in the bottom of the third when senior James Tidwell (Newark, DE/Charter School of Wilmington) scored on a fielder's choice to trim the deficit to 6-1.

Ithaca would score a pair of runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to make it 10-1. The Bombers scored a single run in the top of the seventh to make it 11-1.

The Shoremen scored a pair in the bottom of the seventh when junior Greg Perret's (Morris Plains, NJ/Bayley Ellard) single through the left side scored Tidwell and junior Ben Kaplan (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson). The single cut the Bombers lead to 11-3.

The Bombers got a two-run home run from Jared Roth to complete the scoring in the top of the eighth.

For Ithaca, Abone went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, while Samela went 2-for-4, scoring three times. For Washington, Tidwell and sophomore Matt Boucher (Alexandria, VA/Bishop Ireton) went 3-for-5. Tidwell scored two runs in the tilt, while Perret was 2-for-5 with two RBI for the hosts.

Shane Wolf got the win for Ithaca, allowing just one earned run and scattering five hits in six innings of work. He is now 2-1 on the season. Sophomore pitcher Chris Keiper (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) took the loss and falls to 1-1.

The Shoremen open Centennial Conference play Tuesday with a 3:30 p.m. game versus visiting Swarthmore at Athey Field.
