2008 LANCASTER, PA - Host Franklin & Marshall College scored four runs in the first inning and four more in the second en route to a 12-0 win over visiting Washington College in a Centennial Conference baseball game on Friday afternoon at Caplan Field. The Diplomats improved to 13-10 overall and 8-2 in conference play with the win, while the Shoremen fell to 5-11 and 1-6 with the loss. Jason Anderson highlighted the four run bottom of the first inning with a two-run triple and would later score on a double by Rich Gallugi to cap the rally. In the bottom of the second, the Diplomats loaded the bases with two outs. A throwing error by the Shoremen turned into three runs and gave F&M a 7-0 lead and would tack on another run on a single by Gallugi. The hosts added three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to make it 12-0. Gallugi went 4-for-4 with three RBI and Andrew Hanson went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for F&M in the win. Anderson and O'Reilly each scored two runs and had two and one RBI respectively. Matthew Metsch picked up the victory on the mound, tossing a complete game shutout. He scattered six hits and struck out three to improve to 2-1 on the season. Sophomore Matt Boucher (Alexandria, VA/Bishop Ireton) went 3-for-3, while senior James Tidwell (Newark, DE/Charter School of Wilmington) was 2-for-4 for Washington. On the mound, junior Joe Coveney (Madison, NJ/Madison) took the loss and falls to 1-1. The Shoremen are scheduled host Haverford tomorrow in a 12:30 p.m. Centennial Conference doubleheader. |
