Shorewoman of the Week
Freshman tennis player Amanda Bercovici (Hackensack, NJ/Bergen Tech) and freshman softball player Kylie Nottingham (Ocean City, MD/Stephen Decatur) share this week's Shorewoman of the Week honor. Bercovici remained undefeated in singles this spring with a pair of wins and also won two doubles matches last week, while Nottingham had an impressive week at the plate, including a game-winning home run and a walk-off game-winning hit in extra innings.
Bercovici posted a 6-1, 6-3, win at No. 1 singles against Swarthmore and a 6-2, 6-2, win at No. 2 against Muhlenberg. She was also an 8-6 winner at No. 2 doubles against Swarthmore and an 8-2 winner at No. 2 doubles against Muhlenberg. Her play helped keep the Shorewomen unbeaten at 10-0 overall and 5-0 in conference matches. She is one of three Shorewomen with a 10-0 record in singles this spring and is also 9-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Nottingham, who was also named the Centennial Conference Co-Player of the Week, hit .474 with two home runs, seven RBI, and a .947 slugging percentage for the softball team. She had the first of her two game-winning hits in game one of a double-header at Haverford Tuesday when she turned a 6-5 deficit into an 8-6 lead by launching a three-run home run to put the Shorewomen up for good. In the second game at Haverford, she socked another home run to highlight a 3-for-4 game with three runs scored and two RBI in a game. Her effort helped Washington sweep a Centennial Conference road doubleheader for the first time since 2006. In the first game of a double-head against Muhlenberg Saturday, she went 3-for-4 with a run scored and the walk-off RBI single to give the Shorewomen a 4-3 win in the bottom of the 10th inning.
